|
Impact Echo (IE) investigations are performed to assess the condition
or thickness of slabs, beams, columns, walls, pavements, runways,
tunnels, and dams.
The Impact Echo (IE) system is designed to determine
the condition and thickness of concrete, wood, stone, and masonry structural
members when voids, honeycomb, and/or cracks are suspected. IE investigations
can also be performed to predict the strength of early age concrete
if the member thickness is known. Lastly, the IE method will provide
information on the depth of a flaw or defect, in addition to mapping
its lateral location and extent. An advantage of the IE method over
the Ultrasonic
Pulse Velocity (UPV) method is that only one side
of the structure needs to be accessible for testing.
Olson sells three platforms that can use the Impact Echo
principle as shown in the chart below.
All of Olson's Concrete Thickness
Gauges (CTG) are
implicity based on the IE principle, whereas the IE is sold as an add-on for
the NDE 360 and Freedom Data platforms.
The Impact Echo Scanner uses the IE principle, but is sold only to
US Government agencies and Universities, as well as approved International
sales. It is available on a consulting basis through our sister company,
Olson Engineering.
Training
Hands-on training is available for the Impact Echo Nondestructive Testing
Method at our Wheat Ridge, Colorado (USA) location, which is a
suburb located appromately 15 minutes northwest of downtown Denver. Training
may be available at your location by one of our agents upon special arrangement.
