Olson's Commitment to Quality
Olson Instruments is committed to providing
reliable products manufactured with quality components and delivering
without delays. This commitment to our customers provides proper solutions
with the benefit of excellent products. We distinguish ourselves through
performance and solutions.
Foundation
You have the questions, we have the tools
and knowledge to find, characterize and assess the condition of structures.
Since our President and
Principal Engineer, Larry D. Olson founded Olson Engineering in 1985,
Olson Engineering/Olson Instruments is continously designing, developing, manufacturing and marketing complex Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation equipment.
In 1993 we began selling our instruments commercially and Mr. Olson formally
founded Olson Instruments, Inc. in 1995 as an independent company. Larry
has more than 25 years of experience in civil engineering. A geotechnical
engineering masters degree graduate of the University Texas, Austin, he
has earned him a reputation for excellence in the nondestructive evaluation
and testing (NDT&E) industry. Mr. Olson is an active committee member
of ACI and ICRI. Larry has been an instructor in ASCE’s course on
“Structural Condition Assessment of Existing Structures” since
1997. (http://www.asce.org)
Our equipment is sold around the world and we were the first company ever to design and manufacture a digital
Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL) system in 1987. We've acquired an unprecedented
list of "first-ever's", including helping National Geographic
solve a 4,500 year old mystery involving exploration within the tunnels
of the Cheops Pyramid in Giza, Egypt. Our patented Impact Echo test head was used to help in the investigation.
As our equipment is first researched
and developed from the experience of Olson Engineering, Inc. for consulting
engineering projects, our customers benefit in two ways:
The instruments are field rugged and proven for each application.
Training and support are provided by Olson engineers from a consulting
engineering perspective— we use the equipment firsthand, and implement
upgrades/revisions to keep up with new technology that demands faster
processing speeds and graphic displays.
The instruments have been designed
and manufactured by our highly educated and professional staff of electrical,
geophysical, mechanical and civil engineers. This allows us to provide
excellent maintenance and support of our instruments and also to research
and develop custom instruments for the construction and other industries.
We have patents on most of our equipment.

The Company
Headquartered
in Wheat Ridge,Colorado, Olson Instruments is one of the first manufacturing
companies to introduce nondestructive testing and evaluation instrumentation
for construction. The company has been an established manufacturer of sensors
and data collection systems dating back to 1993.
Employee expertise includes sales, manufacturing, and
product development engineering. We have a strong dedication to helping undergraduates.
Over the years we have hired both summer students and interns,
many of whom came from the CO School of Mines, an elite college that accepts
only the smartest in their class. Our program offers a combined learning
experience of engineering in the fields of manufacturing and sales. It gives
these students an excellent opportunity to gain work experience and qualification
for future employment. Olson Engineering and Olson Instruments are EEO employers.
Products
In the mid-1980's, the Company’s focus and products were designed to
address the requirement of the civil engineering industry. As the Company
grew and became a leader in the industry, both government agencies and independent
engineering firms came to depend on Olson Engineering for their expertise. This experience led to the founding of Olson Instruments in 1995, with the development of PC-based NDE modules for nondestructive on-site testing. The Freedom Data PC provides an extremely flexible platform for NDE based condition assessment of structures, pavements, foundations, and seismic geophysical engineering surveys.
The world’s first handheld impact echo
device, the Concrete Thickness Gauge (CTG), was developed in 2000
and was presented at the World of Concrete in Orlando, Florida. This
new technology has led to the development of a series of systems.
The CTG-1T (Thickness Table) and the CTG-1TF (Thickness Table plus
Flaw Detection), and our new option for surface wave velocity measurement
(CTG-1TF-SW) are powerful stand-alone testing devices, or when combined
with data download to your PC comprise a complete impact echo flaw
detection system.
In November 2002, the Company expanded to development and manufacturing
of the Freedom DAS system. This advanced data acquisition technology
is ideal for signal conditioning with data collection, processing,
and display where conditions are harsh and space is limited.
Olson Instruments has made sure that durability, robust construction, long-battery life and quality are built-in to every instrument we sell.
